چکیده:
After shortly going through the scientific biography of the 2026 Nobel laureate, Prof Francis Halzen, I will enumerate the main goals envisaged for the IceCube neutrino telescope at the south pole that justified its construction. I will then review its main achievements and discoveries so far and what is anticipated to be done by IceCube-Gen2 and IceCube-upgrade. As an example to illustrate how IceCube and its successor IceCube-Gen2 can help us to learn about new physics, I will briefly review our recent work in which we demonstrate that interactions between neutrinos and the dark matter spike surrounding their AGN source can change the flavor composition of the neutrinos reaching the Earth. IceCube-Gen2 can test this prediction, ushering in a new method to extract information on the interaction between dark matter and neutrinos as well as on the profile of a possible dark matter spike around the black hole.
