چکیده:
Conductors possess a sea of free electrons that can collectively oscillate to form quasiparticles known as plasmons. At the interface with semiconductors or organic materials, these collective oscillations can couple to bound states of electron-hole – known as excitons – in the adjacent medium. The resulting hybrid light-matter states, called plexcitons, combine key properties from both constituents: they inherit strong light-matter interaction and rapid response times from plasmons, while retaining the sharp resonance features, quantum coherence, and longer lifetimes characteristic of excitons. Among various material and structural choices, the combination of Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) dye with silver nanoisland films (SNIFs) is particularly promising for plexciton formation. Rh6G offers strong, sharp excitonic transitions in the visible range, while silver nanoislands provide a dense and highly tunable distribution of localized plasmon modes due to their disordered, discontinuous morphology in the same spectral range. This configuration enables efficient spectral and spatial matching between plasmons and excitons, promoting strong coupling. Moreover, the simplicity and scalability of fabricating silver nanoislands make them attractive for practical nanophotonic and quantum optoelectronic applications.
